In China, a 1MW photovoltaic project typically generates around 1.2 million to 1.5 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per year, depending on factors like location, sunlight conditions, and system efficiency.
Annual electricity generation: Assuming the annual electricity generation of a 1MW photovoltaic project is 1.3 million kWh.
Carbon dioxide emission savings: According to China's grid carbon emission factor, the average carbon emission per kWh of electricity is approximately 0.78 kg CO₂. Therefore, the carbon dioxide emissions saved by a 1MW photovoltaic project per year would be:
1.3million kWh×0.78kg CO₂/kWh=1,014,000kg CO₂(≈1,014tons CO₂)
This means a reduction of about 1,014 tons of CO₂ each year.
Equivalent number of trees: A mature tree absorbs approximately 22 kg of CO₂ per year. Therefore, the carbon dioxide emissions saved by a 1MW photovoltaic project would be equivalent to the absorption capacity of about 46,000 trees per year:
22kg CO₂/tree1,014,000kg CO₂≈46,000trees
